Admission requirements |
In order to get admission to the University we require the following test results: 1. TOEFL: This test is required for any intended major. Our university minimum requirement is a score of 197 (computer based) or 525 (paper based) and higher Internet Based Exam( Reading: 17, Listening: 17, Writing: 14, Speaking 17). Any score under this minimum score will not be considered. 2. SAT or ACT. This test is required from first year (freshman) applicants ONLY. Students transferring from another college or university are not required to submit these results. This test does not replace the TOEFL. 3. GRE: This test is required for engineering degrees and any other non-business degree. Our university policy is that we consider students with the following scores - 50% or higher in the Analytical and Quantitative section. The Verbal needs to be 7% or higher. 4. GMAT: This test is required for any business degree. We have approximately 650 MBA students and another 400 students in our other graduate business degree programs. Required scores usually depends on the department however the verbal score needs to be at least 5% or higher. The following conversion rate is used by the department to determine eligibility - (G.P.A x 200) + GMAT Score = should be 950 or higher. If you have a degree from outside the U.S. then an equivalent U.S. GPA will be calculated from your transcripts by our International Students department. In addition to test scores, other required application materials include: • $30 non-refundable application fee, • Official transcripts or yearly mark-sheets each college/university attended (if transcripts are not in English, must submit an official certified English translation) • Two letters of recommendation for GRADUATE programs only (not required for any Business and Education Programs) • Official financial statements and supporting documents showing sufficient funds are available for at least one academic year |

Undergraduate Level Honors Program Cleveland State University inaugurated its new Honors Program fall 2004 with a class of 40 highly motivated, academically talented first-year students. All new students admitted to the program as freshmen receive scholarships covering their tuition, academic fees and books. Honors students accept the challenge of participating in intensive and specialized versions of general education classes, and are granted special consideration in several areas including preference in registration and extended university library borrowing privileges. Honors students enroll in at least four honors core courses during their freshman and sophomore years at CSU. These courses offer greater breadth or depth than standard university general education classes. Enrollment is limited to honors students and class sizes are small. Graduate Level Teaching assistantships are provided to assist department in carrying out their undergraduate instructional programs. Teaching assistants aid faculty members in assembling classroom materials, leading discussion groups, supervising laboratory sessions, evaluating student performance, and carrying out other related instructional activities. Research Assistantships are provided to assist faculty and staff members in conducting research. Whenever possible, research assistants are assigned to individuals working in a variety of areas in order to extend the research experience and professional development of the graduate students. Administrative assistantships are provided to assist departments, divisions, institutes, colleges, and other offices of the University in managing their respective units. Administrative assistants are exposed to a variety of administrative experiences and tasks to prepare them for future professional roles. Please note that we are a state university and we do not offer any federal financial aid to international students. However you do have the option of applying for a graduate assistantship or tuition waiver along with your application or after you have been formally admitted to the university. These assistantships are highly competitive and are limited in number. |

Established as a state-assisted university in 1964, Cleveland State University (CSU) is located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio along the shores of Lake Erie. Cleveland boasts of many cultural attractions, leading medical centers, and large multinational companies. CSU is a dynamic urban campus situated on 85 acres with 40 buildings used for teaching, research, housing, and recreation.
Cleveland State University offers six undergraduate colleges: Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, Sciences, Education & Social Services, Business, Urban Affairs, and Engineering. Graduate work is offered through the College of Graduate Studies and the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. CSU offers 70 undergraduate, 36 master, and 11 doctoral degree programs. CSU provides first class faculty for their students. 98% of our fulltime faculty holds the highest degrees in their fields. The English as a Second Language Program at Cleveland State University offers a variety of courses. The undergraduate courses focus on reading and writing skills in preparation for ENG 101. The graduate courses, while designed to assist International Teaching Assistants with communication skills, are open to all graduate students. There is also an Intensive English Language Program that provides 20 hours of instruction per week in all of the language skills. Completion of the Intensive English Language Program is another option for those students who have not yet fulfilled their English proficiency requirement. Cleveland State University is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Each college and special programs also hold full accreditation. The entire CSU campus community, including students, faculty, and staff are provided a wide array of campus-wide programs throughout the year. There are more than 100 student organizations to choose from. These organizations invite students to join and participate in academic, social, professional, and recreational activities. On-campus housing is also available in our residence hall (Viking Hall). CSU also has a nationally ranked Cooperative Education Program available to all students. The diverse CSU student population is currently at 16,000. We have 800 international students representing 80 different countries. International students have many opportunities for both academic and personal growth at CSU. The Center for International Services and Programs (CISP) is designed to help international students transition into the campus both academically and personally. The CISP staff is especially qualified to meet the needs of international students. |
