Public Management is an interdisciplinary science that studies the public sector systematically from an economic, social and psychological perspective.

The Master of Public Management at the University of Potsdam is especially designed to provide professionals with a new understanding of public service issues and equip them with diverse problem solving, management and communication skills. Thereby, the program provides practical and theoretical knowledge which helps driving reforms of public administration, particularly in developing and transition countries.

In order to meet the interdisciplinary and diverse demand for well-trained specialists in the field of Public Management, the MPM is offered with three specializations streams: Public Policy and Administration, Global Public Policy and GeoGovernance.

Students of the MPM program study in an international setting on a very modern campus and are taught by a highly recognized faculty, including academics as well as practice-oriented economists, sociologists and political scientists. The program is further complemented by a one-week study tour to the “Heart of Europe”, Bonn and Brussels, as well as site visits to German institutions and organizations in the vibrant capital of Germany, Berlin. In addition, students have ongoing opportunities to participate in round tables, discussion sessions and intercultural workshops while being continuously assisted by the MPM team on campus throughout the 12 months duration of the program.

After graduation, the majority of participants find themselves in executive and managerial positions in the public or the private sector as well as in NGO’s or international aid agencies and organizations. With more than 360 Alumni from 72 different countries, the MPM also provides a great Alumni network offering further opportunities of exchange within the academic and professional circles.
