Master’s in Digital Leadership
PROFILE OF SPECIALITY
The Master’s programme in Digital Leadership in the professional field 5.13. "General Engineering" holds a professional qualification "Master in Digital Leadership" and is offered in full-time, part-time form of training for bachelors who have completed the same professional field. The training in the Master's degree is based on the credit system, which allows the quality of the training, according to the requirements and directives of the EU. The training is formed on the basis of theoretical training and practice in digital leadership, according to the needs in the field of general engineering. It aims to prepare qualified specialists in the field of digital leadership and the role of leaders in an environment of digitalized business and business activities. It is also a leading motto in the development of curricula – training qualified engineers, based on national and international experience and good practices. The course of study ends with a diploma study and defense.
The qualification characteristic of the specialty with a professional qualification ‘Master in Digital Leadership’ is a basic document defining the development of the curriculum. It complies with the Law on Higher Education in the Republic of Bulgaria, the Regulation on the State Requirements for the Acquisition of Master’s Degree, the National Classification of Professions, the National Qualification Framework of the Republic of Bulgaria, Council of Ministers Decree No 96 of 2 February 2012 and the legal framework of the University of Telecommunications and Posts. The Qualifications Characteristic has been developed on the basis of the principles, requirements and standards of the Council of Europe Resolutions on Academic Education, the competences enshrined in the European Qualifications Characteristics, as well as the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), providing opportunities for student and teacher mobility, internships and internships abroad and participation in inter-university seminars.
OBJECTIVES AND TASKS OF THE SPECIALITY
The specialty ‘Digital Leadership’ was developed within the professional field 5.13. ‘General Engineering’. The training is oriented towards students who are motivated to acquire a Master's degree.
Changes in the environment and trends driven by Industry 4.0 necessitate the development of a new type of key competences and skills by engineers, which is why the master's program is designed to respond to new trends in general engineering and combines innovative learning between theory and practice of digital leadership.
The specialty offers narrowly profiled training for engineers, with creative teaching methods oriented towards digital knowledge and competencies. The training focuses on the technology of digital leadership and the attitude of the leader in his work with people and processes in a digital environment.
The main purpose of the training in the Master's programme in Digital Leadership is the opportunity for students to acquire specific competencies for the technology of digital leadership, as well as the behavioral aspects of leaders, i.e. their ability to communicate and manage digital business processes.
Additional objectives
The training in the specialty Digital Leadership also has additional goals for student motivation, creating lifelong learning habits and empathy with the digital organization. It is necessary to unleash their intellectual potential, to perceive the values in the digital environment embodied in the digital organizational culture and to have ethical and moral norms of behavior in the digital business.
Tasks:
1. Acquisition of modern knowledge, skills and competences that are relevant to digital leadership;
2. Creating conditions for an educational environment motivating students to generate up-to-date, and reliable information on trends and business practices in digital technologies and digital leadership styles;
3. Stimulating the creative potential and abilities of students to solve case studies, engineering issues and problems from the practice of digital leadership;
4. Encouraging communication and open dialogue, a prerequisite for students' research activity in the educational process, their scientific and artistic activity;
5. Conditions for personal expression, ignoring differences and discrimination of students in the educational process, equal start, regardless of gender, physiology, age, ethnicity, etc.;
6. Inter-university and international mobility of students, allowing them to compare with systems and good practices in the field of education, science and high technology – improvement of acquired knowledge, skills and professional experience;
7. Access of students to information resources and labs with modern equipment, which allow a learning process with theoretical knowledge and work in a high-tech university and business environment;
8. Domestic, administrative and career support for students at the campus of the University, providing scholarships, awards, certificates, etc.
QUALIFICATION STANDARD
Structure and organization of the learning process
The teaching in the specialty "Digital Leadership" for the EQD Master meets the European requirements for modern education, combined with tradition and practice of similar universities in the country. The specialty is also distinguished by the specificity of general engineering. Teachers with qualifications and experience, proven specialists in the relevant scientific field, are involved in the learning process.
The training of students to acquire a Master's degree is carried out in accordance with the curriculum of the specialty "Digital Leadership" by studying groups of subjects:
The compulsory block includes building the theoretical training of students and the acquired knowledge and competences in the field of the fundamental for the specialty disciplines in the field of leadership digital styles, building digital culture, leadership of virtual teams, knowledge and competencies of leaders in the digital environment, as well as strategies for digital leadership and digital communications.
The compulsory elective courses in the curriculum enrich the preparation of the students in the specialty by providing them with specialized knowledge in digital leadership, software solutions for project management, digital leadership technologies, social media leadership and leadership in cyber security.
Optional disciplines provide general knowledge to students according to their interests, goals and needs. These disciplines in the curriculum have a supportive role in the educational process related to leadership in e-business and leadership in on-line marketing.
Conducting a practical internship through digital leadership management – a practice in the process of training in the Master's program "Digital Leadership" and the disciplines studied, students prepare for diploma project and and its defence.
The practical preparation of students in the Master's program includes:
- solving practical cases in a digital environment;
- exchange of experience between the participants in the training process;
- training in a real digital environment;
- annual practice at home and abroad in organizations with digital business.
- Through the studied educational content, general theoretical and specialized training is formed, practical skills and competencies for applying innovative and creative digital leadership behavior, decision-making in a digital environment, preparation for digital organizational transformations and digital business management are developed.

- Skills acquired after the completion of the Master's degree are:

- harnessing the potential of digital leaders to manage virtual teams, solve communication problems and conflicts in a digital environment.

The Application Process Explained:
1. In order to start their application process foreign candidates are required to submit the following documents:
- A Diploma for completed secondary education.
- An Appendix to the diploma for completed secondary education. In case the diploma is not accompanied by an assessment scale, in which the maximum grade is visible, the candidate must present an official document containing such a description.
- A document issued by a competent state authority certifying the right of the applicant to continue his/her education in the academies, colleges or universities in the country of the candidate’s secondary education graduation. This document can be issued by the school where the secondary education was completed. It must contain the text: "The education obtained entitles the person to continue his/her education in higher education institutions in ... (country of origin of the school)” or another text, similar in meaning.
- Photocopy of Passport / ID card.
- Application.
- Passport photos size 4.5 / 3.5 cm. - 6 photos
- CV (autobiography).
2. The documents referred to in point 1, must be:
- presented in notarized copies; or
- certified :
- by virtue of the provisions of relevant mutual legal assistance treaties, signed between Bulgaria and the candidate’s home country; or
- by Apostille when the candidates’s home country is a member of the Hague Convention; or
- by the respective Ministry of Education (and/or the Ministry of Health), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the consulate of the Republic of Bulgaria in the candidate’s home country; or
- translated into Bulgarian with legalized translation in Bulgaria. The translated documents should be sent for certifying the translator's signature to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
3. Foreign candidates have to send scanned copies of all required documents for preliminary checks to the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Office at UTP via email m.penkova@utp.bg
4. Upon the completion of preliminary checks, foreign candidates should send the originals by mail to the following address:

5. The Quality Assurance and Accreditation Office at UTP submits the documents for approval to the Ministry of Education and Science. Standard response time varies from two weeks up to a month.
5.1. The Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria issues a certificate needed for issuing a student’s visa (type D) following a positive resolution of the student’s initial application.
5.2. In case of a negative response from the Ministry of Education and Science due to incomplete document set or any other noncompliance assertions, an official letter is sent to UTP, containing the official reasons for turning down the application. Candidates may be granted another opportunity to compile the full set of documents and resubmit for additional check, within extended application deadlines, as needed.
6. Upon receiving the final approval of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Office at UTP issues and signs a certificate confirming that the candidate has been offered admission and sends the following documents to the candidate to assist his/her application for a Bulgarian student’s visa (type “D”):
- Certificate issued by the Ministry of Education and Science;
- Certificate issued by the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Office at UTP.
7. Foreign candidates have to file an application form for a Bulgarian student’s visa (type “D”) with the diplomatic or consular missions of the Republic of Bulgaria in their home country.
