Master of Law and Business
MLB Program Information Day: Saturday, January 26, 2008 in Hamburg
In the international economy, there is a steadily-growing demand for attorneys and managers who
understand and can apply both legal and economic concepts.
|
The Bucerius/WHU Master of Law and Business Program
(“MLB”) analyzes a broad range of legal and economic
issues in a targeted and integrated manner. Unlike
standard “joint degree” programs, in which students
simply take courses in two different faculties, the English language,
one-year MLB is a true joint course of studies,
in which courses are offered only for MLB students. In addition,
many business courses and law courses are “linked,” with
professors coordinating course content and materials with
their colleagues from the other discipline. Students thus
examine individual topics from both a legal and a business
perspective.
Both full-time professors and experienced practitioners
train MLB students systematically in trade, finance,
management, litigation, corporate governance, data
governance, and other fields. In addition, during a two-month
internship, students learn to apply their classroom knowledge,
as well as network with other professionals. These internships have taken place at major international
law firms, international organizations, and international corporations, both within Germany and
throughout the world. After the internship, students take final courses and write their Master’s Thesis,
often drawing on the experience they have gained during their internships.

A required course of general studies, special training sessions in English-language presentation skills,
German courses, an intercultural training program, a wide variety of lectures, and many student
activities in sports, music and other areas round out the MLB Program offerings.
Tuition for the MLB Program is €20,000; there is no application fee. Limited MLB Program financial aid is
available; in addition, external foundations offer exclusive MLB Program scholarships, particularly for
Eastern European and African students.
Bucerius Law School and WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management are the ideal partners for the
MLB Program. Because both schools are leaders in the German rankings in their disciplines and enjoy
excellent worldwide reputations, Bucerius and WHU graduates are among the most sought-after young
professionals in their respective fields.
In academic year 2007 – 2008, some 45 students from 27 countries are studying in the MLB Program.
The Program takes place largely on the lovely Bucerius campus, located in park-like surroundings in the
heart of Hamburg, one of the world’s major ports and an international center of trade, finance, and industry. Students also spent some time at the WHU campus, located in the Rhine Valley, a UNESCO
World Heritage site.
Application deadline: March 31, 2008
